It's been a long time.

I haven't used this blog for a very long time. I set up PeakMTB.com and have been getting that site up and running for bike related info for the Front Range of Colorado. I haven't been out very much on the bike this year. I rode the Chutes this morning and would like to try to get in a quick ride before work more often. It's time to ride more and enjoy the last part of the summer.

Baby on the way!

I had a fun ride on Saturday in Monument with the Inflexible crew. Tonight Aubrey and I head to the hospital and the baby should be here Monday morning. I'm excited to take some time off of work to bond with the baby. I got a new spin bike in the basement with DirectTV in front of it but think I'm going to be riding out in the snow this winter. I can't wait to hook a trailer on the back of the singlespeed this spring so the baby and I can get in some good rides.

Scribbles

I was cleaning out the folders on my computer and found a short story I started a few years back. This is only the beginning. Maybe I'll finish this story some day.

The waiting room. The shrine. The music that surrounds. Tick, tick, thwaap. Tick, tick, thwaap. The lights are fading now as the days grow shorter and the mountains to the west block the last efforts of the sun. In three hours time guests will be arriving and music will fill the air again. The mystery still remains out there in the ether. The tingling sensation of being so close to the unknowable. Within an inch of touching the untouchable. Psychedelic metaphysical bullshit aside there was something out there. I was thrown to the ground one day while walking though the woods by a black ball of energy. In France while backbacking I heard the stories in a small town in the mountains tell stories of faux feu. This is a phenomenon of a ball of energy rising up from cemetaries and flying towards people. The villagers and tourists in the small town in the French Alps spoke like this was no big deal. I remember bits and pieces. Catching the hand of a friend who lost his footing in the mountains of France. The look on Bertrand’s face when he was safely on terra firma. The traveling hordes who follow dreams and causes and lights and sounds across the world. Tribal sub-cultures looking for meaning in a world obsessed with advertising and selling and disposing and replacing. There is an order to this all. There is a plot to this story. There is a melody to the song. Once the doors of perception are swung wide open there is an equal exchange from both sides of the door. Through the door the observer can catch a glimpse of the molecular structure of the atom. The observer can hear the rhythm of the ages and understand that all matter is a connected, spinning, vortex of molecules. As science teaches us the observer is also part of the experiment. There are parts of the observer that travel through the door to the cosmic world. The observer and the experiment are both permanently altered. The world is constantly changing in structure and function. The second you view a snapshot of our universe it has already morphed into something else. The smallest change can alter everything. This is the beginning. This is the end. These are the changes I’ve chronicled. The changes never started and they will never stop. These are the things I’ve experienced. There is a shrine. There is a plate. There are spinning molecules. There are some people who are awake.

There is a shrine on the side of the mountain. I’m lucky enough to have a window seat that looks upon it. The mountains have a way of tethering the world to the heavens. The shear weight and mass of the mountains gives them the authority to touch the sky. The shrine sits upon Cheyenne Mountain. The first mountain between the plains and the great Rockies. Look to the east and you will see hundreds of miles of flat plains. Look to the west and the massive mountains will block your view. There is magic to the west. The shrine of the sun sits just to the west of my desk, my house, my life. The shrine was built from a single block of granite taken from Cheyenne Mountain. Years after the shrine was built the US government thought Cheyenne Mountain would be a great location for the top leaders of our country if we were ever threatened with catastrophic attack. NORAD the mysterious cloak and dagger thought evoking base is located under the mountain and under the shrine. The mountain contains secrets under and above. We spend our days on the mountain now. From the posh world of the 5 star Broadmoor resort to the icy winds of the distant trails by Cripple Creek. The mountain is explored and circumnavigated each day. The air is filled with magic. The mountains are bold enough to grab hold of the heavens and bring them into the reach of the mortals. When perched at the top of the mountains the heavens and the earth mingle together and the rhythm of the ages flutters through the aspens. The bright yellow trees vibrating with energy. Death is near. Rebirth is also close. The Alpha and the Omega. The mystery of the ages is nothing. Quiet your mind. There is no pain. There is no need to concentrate on your breathing and technique. There is no internal chatter. There is only motion and flow and speed and beauty. The eastern religions have discussed at length the Zen sensation the Chi energy. To find the mythical flow of the east you must head to the west. To the mountain. To the shrine.

Gears Shmears

I've been riding my tricked out 29er full suspension bike almost exclusively lately and am bored with gears and squish. I've been playing with the shock setup but it feels to sluggish or too stiff lately. I bled the brakes on the singlespeed and have it tuned up and ready to roll. I think I'm going to keep it single for a while to get the mojo back.

Summer days

We had amazing weather in Colorado this weekend. I had an awesome ride in Monument yesterday morning. I explored the trails in Monument and found more amazing downhill runs coming down 715. After my ride I was eyeballing some long travel bikes online. I really love my HiFi but a Remedy or something else light with 6 inches of travel would be fun. After the ride we drove up to Denver to the Bronco game. It was a nice warm night and a fun time.

USA Pro Cycling Challenge and Bday weekend

This last weekend we had a BBQ to celebrate the new house and my Bday. We had people over Sunday for good food and drinks and then Sunday went to watch the big race. It was really impressive to see that many people turn out for a cycling event. Lots of bikes and riders moving around the city and lots of smiles. After the race Billy and I rode the trails in Monument while it rained in the distance. I've been riding the geared full suspension bike around my new home trails but still keep the singlespeed mentality. I did ride the singlespeed up and down the race course while watching the race.

Palmer Lake

It's been a long time since I posted on the blog. I'm now living in Palmer Lake, Colorado. I moved away from the incredible riding in Cheyenne Canyon to be next to more incredible riding in the Monument area. I rode all weekend and there seem to be endless trails and very few other users. So far country living is pretty nice.
